Frequently Asked Questions

  • Sessions are £45 for 50 minutes and usually take place at the same time each week. This regular schedule helps build continuity, trust, and momentum in the work, while still allowing pre-arranged breaks for holidays or planned time off. The fee is lower than standard psychotherapy rates, as I am currently completing advanced UKCP training. I take payment by bank transfer prior to the session.

  • It varies. I work primarily in a long-term way, focusing on depth rather than quick fixes. This often means months or sometimes years rather than weeks, particularly when working with long-standing patterns. We aim to go at your pace. Sometimes people pause therapy for many reasons and return if or when they want to.

  • You may notice gradual yet meaningful changes - feeling more like yourself, having more clarity, and recovering more easily from things that once felt overwhelming. We’ll usually check in regularly. While therapy can sometimes feel challenging, it is a collaborative process. If you ever feel the space isn’t working for you in any way, please raise it immediately so we can adjust the work or seek additional support.

  • UKCP therapists cannot use client testimonials. I work to the UKCP ethical code, which means you won’t see any reviews or testimonials here. Psychotherapy is deeply personal, and what’s helpful for one person may not be for another. More importantly, your privacy matters. Our work remains confidential, and I will never ask you for a review. If you’re looking for reassurance, UKCP psychotherapy training is held to rigorous professional standards. The UKCP register is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA), and I am also in regular supervision with a fully accredited UKCP supervisor.

  • Your weekly session is reserved just for you. If you can give advance notice (for example, 4 weeks for a holiday), there’s no charge. Otherwise, missed sessions are charged to help keep the work consistent and cover costs that remain regardless of attendance. There is no charge if for any reason i am unavailable and I take time off around many common holidays. I don’t work Bank Holidays.

  • You don’t need to have a plan. Therapy is a space to explore whatever feels most important to you, whether that’s thoughts, feelings, or situations. Sometimes it’s just noticing what’s happening in your life. We’ll work together to uncover patterns and make sense of what comes up - you don’t have to figure it all out before you arrive, my aim is to be there to help you with that.

  • All therapy comes to a close eventually, usually when the original reason for seeking therapy is resolved and you are consistently feeling reasonably well. We usually plan at least 1–2 sessions to reflect on what you’ve achieved, consolidate learning, and think about next steps. I’ll also give you notice if I need to finish working together. Ending therapy thoughtfully helps you take the benefits of the work into your everyday life and ensures you feel supported as the sessions finish.

  • Totally normal and most people feel nervous - it’s literally part of the process. You don’t need a polished story or perfect self-awareness to start. I offer a free 15min phone/zoom consultation to make the process easier. We can talk about what’s worrying you about starting, and we’ll take it step by step. The first few sessions are just getting to know each other and seeing if this feels like a safe and useful space for you.

  • For therapy to work, the space must be safe for both of us; sessions may be ended (without refund) if there is violent or disrespectful behaviour or it appears someone is under the influence of substances.
